Finding your website WOW!
Are you ready to begin?
Good for you. Give yourself and atta girl/boy and move on to the next question.
But remember…if you spend time creating content but no strategies for converting the traffic your content will bring you are missing a BIG opportunity.
Get clear on what you want your user to do and create a design that works for that or those goals.
Fear not - before you can create a stellar website you need to know why you are creating it. For most of us, a website is a tool to generate leads and sales. But most of us treat it like a friends house where we wander around, read her magazines, grab a quick drink and leave.
If you spend time creating content but no strategies for converting the traffic your content will bring you are missing a BIG opportunity.
Great you are keeping things simple for your people. Be sure that the choices you are giving them lead your visitor on a journey to finding the ultimate answers.
Your navigation is an interlinking of pages to guide within the content of your site. Your navigation is like the blueprints to a house, without them you may find that you can’t access your bathroom from your bedroom or the basement from the kitchen.
Well we can fix that. Too many websites are created without thinking of the navigation before the design begins. Many times we’ve landed on a page with no clue how to get access to the information that we really need.
You navigation is the outline of your story and who doesn’t love a great story. It should be set up so that people who come to you will get to know you, like you, determine that you have the answers and take you to the next step.
And your navigation isn’t just about your menu bar is about getting from point A to point B in the easiest manner. Without being given 20 options and letting them randomly choose or being dropped on a page with no idea of what to do next.
Way to go because humans are the ones that buy from you not search bots and Google is paying attention to that.
Using your content to answer your clients pressing questions and solutions will keep people coming back to your website.
And the more eyes on your site, the more potential sales you can make. Keeping your content fresh and useful is one way to get some great SEO juice on your website.
We can fix that! Writing content for the bots will not get you ranked higher, in fact, it can hurt more than help. And this includes static page copy too, not just blog posts.
The search engine determines what’s good content based on your on-page SEO. That is what gets readers reading, sharing and coming back for more.
Some ways you can add useful reader content is to add an FAQ page or do a few tutorials and how-tos. Not a great writer? No problem, record some videos or audios and incorporate that into your content.
The idea of content marketing is to target your customers. Educate them on a certain topic, your products or services, and eventually give a solution to their problem.
Woohoo, you rock!We are so focused on the SEO of a website, attracting people or traffic that many forget about the what's next step on every page.
And your actions should be on every page so you may need to do some tweaking there.
But calls to action or next steps are useless if you are not testing to make sure they are working and converting so be sure to check your numbers too.
That's okay you are not alone. So many times when reviewing websites or talking to clients they are so focused on benefits, value and the copy that they forget this important step.
We're busy people and we don't want to have to think.
And, you don't want people wandering aimlessly looking for what they are supposed to do next or where to start.
You need to inspire your visitors to take an action to keep them involved in the story. This could be as simple as reading more or as complex as filling out a vetting form. The whole purpose of your website is to make the sale and if you aren't guiding your clients to do that then you are doing it wrong.
Having the calls to action is the first part, knowing the numbers is the next. So be sure that after adding your calls to action that you watch the numbers to be sure they are the right ones.
Love that you want to be contacted. I get frustrated when I land on a website and have no way to connect with the business.
You don't have to make it so easy that you are inundated with pick my brain inquiries. You can go a step further and make your contact form do the vetting for you.
And don't forget social channels are another way for people to connect with you but you should not rely on them for people to reach out to you with questions, opportunities or purchases.
This is an easy fix! Some people need to connect with you, ask some clarifying questions or be reassured that this is the solution they seek. For those people they want a way to easily connect with you and you should provide it.
Some will skim the copy on your website and may miss the answer they desire so it's a good idea to provide them an avenue for that.
Others may want to know simple things like refunds, returns, and other nitty-gritty information. That might be the difference between making the sale and not so at the very least give them a form to complete.
And don't rely on social channels because it will allow people to connect with you but at the same time it takes them away from your site.
